coops spring 2014

Time flies! Another group of co-op students joined us for 8 months earlier this May. Our co-op headcount is at an even 10 spanning the busy summer months, and we are looking for several more to join us this fall!

Some interesting facts about Appnovation’s latest co-op cohort:

Stephen Hu, Software Engineer QA Co-op

UBC Computer Engineering Co-op

Stephen is thrilled to start his first work term with Appnovation and he is hoping to leverage previous customer-facing experience to excel as a QA Appnovator. Stephen has dreamed of working in the tech industry ever since he was little. Concurrent with his academics and co-op, he works on several side projects, the latest being an open source client for the Mafia party game. Stephen is on the Dean’s Honour List at UBC and he is a proud recipient of the APEGBC Scholarship. In his spare time, Stephen enjoys building robots, programming indie games, ballroom dancing and ultimate frisbee.

Ozair Zahid, Project Coordinator Co-op

UBC Sauder School of Business Co-op

Ozair’s appetite for project management stemmed from his previous work experience at BMS Job Societa’ Cooperativa in Milan, Italy. Ozair was lucky enough to work on Italian soil as a Project Management Intern, where he was awarded a Certificate of Excellence for his efforts in the implementation of a new employee database. He has a lengthy list of extracurricular activities including involvement with the UBC Intercultural Alliance, an organization attempting to alleviate cultural segregation on campus. Ozair’s passion for IT and project management drew him to Appnovation and he is looking forward to learning and growing with the company!

John Wiebe, Software Developer Co-op

UBC Computer Science Co-op

John joined us a Software Developer for his first formal co-op work placement. John got an initial taste of web development at Langara College before transferring to UBC Computer Science, and he has been creating websites and sharpening his skill set ever since. John previously worked at the Richmond Youth Service Agency, where he was primarily in charge of developing marketing material and websites. Outside of the office and the classroom, John can be found enjoying the sun at a local beach; or on more dreary Vancouver days, gaming or catching up on the latest tech news.
