Alfresco Live Chat with TogetherJS

In Alfresco Summit 2014 one of the topics/projects that was discussed was an Alfresco integration with TogetherJS to develop a live chat in Share. TogetherJS is a free, open source JavaScript library by Mozilla that adds collaboration features and tools to your website.

Just out of curiosity, I have tried this library in my Alfresco 5 installation. To add the live chat functionality in Share, we just need to add these lines in a common ftl page, which for I used alfresco-template.ftl:

<script src="https://togetherjs.com/togetherjs-min.js"></script>

<button onclick="TogetherJS(this); return false;">Alfresco Live Chat</button>

As you can see in the screenshots, it looks really cool, however, it would need some changes to be 100% functional in Alfresco Share, i.e:

-       Try to avoid user invitation, it would be more interesting if we could see all the users logged in Alfresco

-       Avoid chat messages everytime a user navigates to a different page

Anyway, it’s an interesting library, and it seems to be a good start if you want to add a chat feature in your Alfresco installation.
