Appnovation kicked off 2015 by welcoming three fresh faces to our head office in Vancouver. As strong supporters of the local post-secondary co-op program, allow me to introduce you to our awesome new co-op crew: Jonathan, Yasmeen and Amanda!
A little bit about Appnovation’s latest co-op cohort:
Jonathan Lee, Quality Assurance Co-op
Program: Computing Science at SFU
Jonathan hopes to bring his previous QA and web development experience from Spot Solutions to Appnovation as a QA co-op. In addition to technical experience, he has developed his soft skills during his time volunteering for AIESEC’s local committee at SFU. In the next eight months Jonathan hopes to gain valuable experience and insight in all areas as an Appnovator. In his free time, he can be found playing video games, keeping up with tech news and sometimes mishandling the puck playing drop-in hockey.
Yasmeen Akbari, Quality Assurance Co-op
Program: UBC Computer Engineering Program
Yasmeen previously worked for AirPatrol Corporation as a Quality Assurance Co-op, testing positioning systems that track mobile phones and WiFi devices. Back on campus, she's part of UBC SailBot, a student engineering team that builds and competes robotic sailboats. In 2013, she travelled to Gloucester, MA with the team and won the International Robotic Sailing Regatta. Outside of the office, she enjoys snowshoeing, hiking the local mountains and running on both pavement and trails. Check out her UBC SailBot team here.
Amanda Lai, Project Coordinator Co-op
Program: UBC Sauder School of Business
Amanda’s a proud Canuck enjoying the fast lane in the Business Technology major at UBC. She began her professional career as an Event Planner giving back to the local area, where she coordinated a community event for over 500 people, then moved on to WorkSafeBC as a Financial Systems Analyst to gain insight into the corporate life. Recently returning from an academic exchange in Vienna, she traveled to 25 cities in 12 countries. Nowadays, you’ll find her playing dodgeball, scouting out Vancouver’s music scene and baking some decadent sweets.
