Back to School? We'd Rather Be Appnovators

Four students have recently joined Appnovation, adding value to our Professional Services, Sales and Business Development departments.  We were very excited to have Paul, Graham, Tony and Joel on board, bringing our co-op headcount to eight students this term. Some insights into Appnovation’s latest co-op cohort!

Paul Xu, Sales and Marketing Coordinator Co-op

Program: SFU Beedie School of Business Program, minor in SFU Computing Science Program

Paul previously worked for Prospera Credit Union as a Marketing Database Analyst Co-op for 8 months where he was responsible for assisting ongoing business development and conducting analysis on a variety of subjects for campaign development and tracking. In 2015, Paul will be representing SFU’s MIS team to participate in the JDC West case competition hosted at the University of Victoria. When he’s not busy studying and being an Appnovator, Paul loves to travel and watch movies.

Graham Cook, Project Coordinator Co-op

Program: SFU Business Co-op

Graham has joined Appnovation for his third co-op placement, with former experience in a variety of sectors. Most recently, he worked for SFU's Volunteer Services Department and previously spent a year as an editor at SFU's student newspaper, The Peak. In his spare time, Graham enjoys volunteering for the Huntington Society of Canada's BC Chapter, sitting on their Board of Directors as Co-President. Graham also enjoys playing golf (or at least attempting!) He is looking forward to honing his project management skills and learning more about open source technologies during his 8-month term at Appnovation.

Tony Han, Business Development Coordinator Co-op

Program: UBC Bachelor of Commerce, Finance & Marketing Specialization

Tony joined Appnovation’s business development team in June 2014. He has a strong background in outbound marketing, which sets him up for success in the business development realm. Tony previously worked for BMO promoting credit cards and also held a sales position in Calgary, working 13 hour days promoting educational books (and he’s still got some stamina left!) Prior to this, Tony was a Multimedia Entertainment Specialist, creating customized technology solutions for each customer, at Best Buy. Tony has a personal blog (topics: tech gadgets, food and business) and simultaneously runs a campus radio program. Tony is heavily involved with the Commerce Undergraduate Society (Sauder), the largest student society in Canada, formerly holding a position on their Board of Directors.

Joel Hoi, Quality Assurance Engineer Co-op

Program: SFU Computer Engineering Co-op

Before joining Appnovation Technologies, Joel worked at Tantalus System Cooperation for four months as an Endpoint Quality Assurance Engineer. While at Tantalus, Joel was awarded the Industrial Undergraduate Student Research Award (IUSRA) from NSERC. Joel has also trained in the 12 Service Battalion 2947 Royal Canadian Army Cadets as a member of the Band and Drill Team. At age 15 during recreational marksmanship, he learned to shoot with the Daisy Model 853C Air Rifle (!) In addition, Joel was also one of the First Responders that participated in the Richmond Ozone 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. To round it all off, during his leisure time Joel is usually seen playing badminton at the local courts or salsa dancing.
