Challenge

We worked with one of the three largest consumer credit reporting agencies in the world, whose mandate was to deliver data-powered, goal-oriented digital products so that small to enterprise sized HR teams can put people first. In order to achieve this, they needed to bring their HR management and compliance tools to the next level. 

This client sat on a wealth of customer data it wasn’t taking full advantage of. They saw the growth opportunity in offering their clients new and more user-friendly ways to leverage data capabilities as an add-on to their existing agreements, enabling new revenue streams.

Solution

Throughout phases of development, we drilled down to build an initial portal addressing their specific business need. We began with a workforce compliance tool, allowing employers to comply with the regulatory requirements around gathering and storing new employees’ personal information. The portal was critical for data storage and analysis and the reporting needed to prove compliance and avoid unwanted penalties or legal challenges.

We began by conducting workshops to examine options for modeling, security governance and platform administrations that Google Cloud’s Looker already knew how to hook into their platform and through to the end-user experience.

 

Surpassing security

The hyper-sensitivity of identity information and other personal employee data necessitated stringent security requirements. To bring the project to life, we worked with Google to install a customized version of Looker that was fully compliant with rigorous security information structures. 

In the discovery phase, we walked the client through the full capabilities of Looker’s data visualization tools, focusing on the ultimate end goal of customer experience. We audited their current suite of capabilities and dug deep into their business priorities to agree on a solid sense of how data was used in their existing products and map that toward where they wanted to evolve.

 

Adapting with an agile mindset

Our business intelligence and data analytics teams reviewed the data that had previously been pipelined and brought it first into Looker to create initial models and sample dashboards. While a solid start, it was evident that the current pipelines wouldn’t take full advantage of Looker’s capabilities. We took the extra time to go back to basics and examine fundamental business priorities more closely, and flesh out the data strategies available that would accomplish our client’s goals. 

 

Partnering closely with Google

Ongoing work with Google engineering and project managers made it possible for us to get the most from Looker while simultaneously addressing high standards for security infrastructure. As new security considerations arose through the project, we focused on consistently evolving our approach to keep pace. 

We regularly amended technical design documentation to capture and map process improvements to all project areas. 
 

Impact

Throughout the project, we dug deep into the spirit of agile. We envisioned solutions closely with our client and the Google team to champion fresh thinking, quick pivots and endless adaptability on the path to a final successful project. Our client is now tapping into the true potential of data to level up its digital projects and deliver better business outcomes for its customers.
